Mike Lumb
32 years as a union leader with ETFO and 10+ years coaching at the Queen's Industrial Relations Centre.
Mike Lumb is a highly experienced labour relations and collective bargaining professional whose career in Ontario’s public education sector spans more than 32 years. He served as an Executive Staff Officer with the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO), where he played a significant leadership role in advancing labour relations initiatives and supporting union members at both the local and provincial levels.
Mike holds a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Criminal Justice from Carleton University (1987) and a Bachelor of Education from Queen's University (1993). He also served as an instructor with the Queen’s Industrial Relations Centre Negotiation Skills Program for the last 8 years and has delivered presentations on labour relations issues to educational unions across Canada.
Throughout his career, Mike held a wide range of leadership positions, including Local Federation President, Chief Negotiator, Provincial Executive Member, and Executive Staff Officer within ETFO’s Collective Bargaining Department. His extensive experience reflects a deep commitment to advocacy, strategic negotiations, and effective labour-management relations.
Mike has extensive expertise in a variety of negotiation models, including positional bargaining and interest-based bargaining, and understands the impact these approaches have on workplace relationships and organizational outcomes. He has also developed and implemented successful online bargaining strategies utilizing multiple electronic platforms.
During his tenure as a union leader, Mike addressed a broad spectrum of labour relations matters, including grievance and arbitration processes, employee benefits, member advocacy, and workplace conflict resolution. His leadership and strategic approach have consistently supported positive outcomes for members and organizations alike.
