Over 40 years as a leading labour negotiator with Unifor, MVO recipient, and long-time member of Ontario's Minister of Labour arbitrator selection committee.
Hemi had a 40+ year career with the CAW/Unifor, overseeing over 150 national staff for Unifor across the country. As a leader in Unifor, Hemi successfully completed over 3500 sets of contract negotiations. In addition, Hemi has worked across the auto, mining and hospitality sectors in Canada. He also bargaining the innovative
“Framework of Fairness Agreement” between Magna International and CAW-Canada.
Hemi was involved in and led numerous important initiatives, including serving on the board of the Duke of Edinburgh Commonwealth Study Conference which shared best labour relations practices internationally. He led fundraising and delivered the Emerging Leaders Dialogue conferences from 2011 – 2023, and was a founding executive member of the Caribbean/Canada Emerging Leaders Dialogue. Hemi is also a past board member of the Ontario Ministry of Labour Arbitrator Selection Committee, and a past board member of the Renascent Foundation.
In 2009, Hemi was inducted as a member of the Royal Victorian Order by HRM Queen Elizabeth for his work on the Commonwealth Study Conference. Hemi continues to consult to many organizations in many areas, including labour relations, collective bargaining strategy, arbitration and mediation, relationship development, and facilitation mergers and consolidations.
